CONSTITUTION OF

THE COSTA RICAN STUDENT ASSOCIATION (CRSA)

 

 

KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY

 

ARTICLE I: NAME

 

The Costa Rican Student Association shall also be known as TICOS.

 

 

ARTICLE II: PURPOSES

 

A)      To promote and assist with the exchange of students between Universidad de Costa Rica(UCR), Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica(TEC), or any other university in Costa Rica and Kansas State University(KSU), subsequently promoting a cultural and educational exchange in participating students from both countries.

B)       To promote a formal way of communication between Kansas State University, its different departments and different organizations, and the Costa Rican students, their families and friends involved in some field of study at Kansas State University.

C)       To promote Costa Rica’s precious values such as peace and democracy in the social, cultural, spiritual, athletic, political and academic fields at the University and community levels in Kansas and any other place.

D)      To coordinate assistance to the new Costa Rican students and any other members that may need help.

E)       To support any activities and program involving Costa Rica, Latin America, or any interest that the organization judges important.

F)        To coordinate activities with the K-State Alumni organization in Costa Rica.

G)      To include and exhibit the Costa Rican culture to any other member or person (Non-Costa Rican) that wants to be part of the Association and that  is welling to learn about the country and the traditions, as well as sharing them with the current members of the Association.

 

 

 

ARTICLE III: MEMBERSHIP AND FEE

 

            Any Kansas State University student, faculty/staff, their spouses, or any other person who wishes to promote the purposes of this association, will be granted membership. All Costa Rican students enrolled at Kansas State University shall be considered members of the association. A $5.00 semester fee may be charged to all members depending on the needs of the association.

 

ARTICLE IV: OFFICERS, DUTIES, TENURE, ELECTIONS

 

Section I: Name of officers:

 

The officers of CRSA shall be:

 

                                                            President

                                                            Vice-President

                                                            Secretary

                                                            Treasurer

                                                            Public Relations Chairperson

                                                            Webmaster

 

Section II: Duties:

 

 

PRESIDENT

A)     The President shall represent the association and be responsible for all business concerning it.

B)     To order disbursements of funds as the association may need.

C)     To prepare at least once a year a report of the association.

 

VICE-PRESIDENT

A)    The Vice-President shall assist the President in all business concerning the association and act as President in the latter’s absence.

 

SECRETARY

A)    Take minutes of every executive and general meetings.

B)    Read minutes of past meetings at the beginning of each meeting.

C)    Maintain a file with all the past meetings notes.

 

TREASURER

A)    Keep all financial records and submit a report at each general meeting.

 

PUBLIC RELATIONS CHAIRPERSON

A)    To coordinate all public relations within the organization.

B)    Prepare a semi-annual newsletter concerning the organization.

 

WEBMASTER

A)    Keep the website updated and with relevant information concerning all the needs of the organization.

B)    Inform the President and the rest of the officers of the website’s content changes.

C)    Maintain a secure copy of all the website files.

SECTION III: TENURE

 

            The term of office for each officer shall begin at the beginning of the school year, and shall continue for a period of one calendar year and until their successors are dully elected as qualified.

 

 

SECTION IV: ELECTIONS

 

A)    Elections of an officer shall be announced 15 days before the election.

B)    Election of officers shall be blind ballot after direct nominations.

C)    In the event of tie vote, successive blind balloting shall be given until one of the nominees is elected.

D)    Any and all the officers may be candidate for re-election.

 

 

ARTICLE V: COMITEES

 

 

This organization will have the following committees:

 

·         Social and Public Relations Committee.

·         Cultural Activities Committee.

·         Sports Committee.

·         Academic Assistance Committee.

·         Newcomers Assistance Committee.

 

The board of officers will appoint the committee heads after they have been elected.

 

 

ARTICLE VI: MEETINGS

 

The organization will have a general assembly at least once per semester, or at least at the time 10% of the members request it. The board of officers will meet and prepare the agenda prior to the general assembly. There will be frequent committee meetings.

 

 

ARTICLE VII: AMENDMENTS AND ADOPTIONS

 

Amendments:

 

            Members of the organization shall propose amendments of the constitution.

            Amendments shall be amended as follows: members may propose Amendments at any time during the school year in a written form. They can be acted upon during any general assembly and shall be considered adopted by two-thirds majority vote. Thirty days shall elapse between an amendment proposal and the vote on the amendment.

Adoptions:

 

            A two-thirds majority on the delegates in attendance at the general assembly voting for acceptance shall constitute the adoption of this constitution. 

 

 

ARTICLE VIII: DISSOLUTION

 

            To dissolve the organization, a unanimous vote in the general assembly is required. The remaining funds will have to be donated to the International Student Center.

 

ARTICLE IX: DATE OF VALIDATION

 

            The 2005-2006 officers validate this constitution on October 10th, 2005. This constitution has been revised and validated on November 9th, 2009.
